CDML is back, and better than ever!
FMWebschool has created a solution named BlackBelt that enables you to use CDML with FileMaker 7 and 8 and FileMaker Server Advanced and FileMaker Server 9.

Why would we bring CDML Back?

There are literally thousands of developers that have wanted to move from FileMaker 6 to FileMaker 7- 9 but have not done so because of the time involved converting and rewriting their CDML websites. BlackBelt enables users to convert their files to 7 - 9 and then make minute changes to their CDML code.

We’ve added more power to CDML

CDML is an extremely easy to use tag based language. We have added some powerful new features such as PHP email functionality. Now BlackBelt users can code in both CDML and PHP! This is a great way to slowly move from CDML to PHP!

Do we have to have Server Advanced or FileMaker Server 9? Yes and No

Yes, either you, or the FileMaker hosting provider you are using. FMGateway provides FileMaker Hosting that is compatible with Blackbelt.

Do you get the performance benefits using FMSA and CDML as you would using FMSA and PHP?

Yes indeed! There is very little overhead from PHP and the BlackBelt engine.

Can I use my same CDML code?

Yes of course! There are a couple “very small” changes that will need to be made depending if you are using Apache or IIS. Some CDML tags such as (DBOpen and DBClose) are not relevant in the newer versions of FileMaker. Technical Notes are available here.

Examples: Static pages now have to link to the FMPro.php file instead of FMPro
Form action attributes should now also link to "FMPro.php" or "FMPro.php?"

Does PHP have to be installed?

Yes, PHP with the CURL extension enabled. The wonderful thing about BlackBelt is you will now have the opportunity to code with CDML and with PHP. So, you get the best of both worlds. This is also a great opportunity to slowly learn and even migrate some sites to PHP.

What learning resources will be available?

BlackBelt ships with CDML in 8 Hours v2, Quick Start Guide, Installation videos for the Mac and PC and FileMaker privilege setup.

We want to license several copies of BlackBelt

Yes, we offer discounts on multiple licenses
